Medical history! First Inoculation by Dr Edward Jenner

SMALLPOX! Rash and blisters, contortions and it was often a death sentence for those who tended the infected. The pox did not respect rich or poor. It attacked Mozart, Elizabeth I, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Dr Edward Jenner feared for the life of his family! He was resolved to find a better way of protection against this dreaded disease! He called it, ‘The Speckled Monster.’

Doctors were powerless, as they had no cure, yet the solution was already known to some village people. How? His story explains how this came about. Dr Jenner took a great risk when, on May 14th 1796, he tested the theory. Dr Jenner offered to inoculate his gardener’s eight year old son to protect him from contracting the disease.
